Title: 5 Tips for Maintaining Your Printer’s Lower Pressure Roller

5 Tips for Maintaining Your Printer’s Lower Pressure Roller_副本

Printers are common devices used extensively in offices, schools, and even at home. While many of their users don’t pay that much attention to several of its internal components, but are only concerned with changing toner cartridges or caring for printheads, most printers still have small parts that need tender care and attention. Take, for instance, your printer’s Lower Pressure Roller. This vital component of your printer’s fusing unit works alongside the upper fuser roller in applying pressure so that toner will properly bond to the paper.

At HonHai Technology, we know and understand too well from our years in the printer parts industry how every component counts in a printer’s overall performance. We share with you 5 tips that will help keep your lower-pressure roller working as it should. We think you’ll find them helpful.

1. Keep your printer clean inside. Dust.

Paper fibers and excess toner can get stuck in your printer over time. If they touch your lower pressure roller, you can get uneven pressure or smudges on your printed pages. Now and then, try gently opening up your printer and cleaning the inside with a lint-free cloth or soft brush. A clean inside lets the roller on your printer roll freely from debris and reduces the risk of print defects.

2. Monitor Paper Quality.

Paper with very low sizing content (such as cheaper copy paper) tends to produce more dust and residue in the printing process, which may collect on the surface of the lower pressure roller.

Using only recommended or better paper will eliminate much of this residue, keeping the roller’s surface clear. This minor change can greatly improve the consistency of printing and help to prevent problems operating the fusing system.

3. Don’t Print Continuously.

The constant activity of the fusing system means that the lower pressure roller operates at high temperature and pressure. This contributes to wear on the roller, and the faster and more continuous printing goes on, the more the roller finds to wear down the surface.

If you routinely do large printing jobs, consider printing in multiple smaller sections with a brief cool-off in between. Allowing the lower pressure roller to stabilize may prolong the life of the part in your printer.

4. Look for Signs of Wear.

Many things in the printer, like the lower pressure roller, are considered “use-up” items. When the surface develops cracks, shows an uneven texture, prints out a pattern, or produces irregularities several times in printed pages, the surface of the lower pressure roller is beginning to wear.

Check regularly for this condition of the roller; if the surface shows repeated signs of wear, be aware of the need to replace it soon, and that more serious problems may be on your doorstep.

5. Replace It.

The lower-pressure roller will come to the end of its life and have to be replaced. If you continue to have trouble producing a good, clear print with no wrinkles, smudges, or repeating marks after cleaning, it’s time to place a new roller in the printer.

Use known, reliable suppliers of parts for your printer to mitigate more serious problems affecting the printer and other pieces inside the fuser.
