We now have so many sources for printer consumables in the competitive copier marketplace. Everywhere from toner cartridges to ink cartridges, fuser films, and drum units. However, not all are the same quality, and there continues to be a problem with counterfeit or even poor-quality supplies. Distributors and resellers, as well as the final user, have already encountered serious difficulties due to counterfeit and low-quality products.
With over 10 years of experience in the printer parts industry, HonHai Technology understands how important it is to ensure product authenticity and stable quality. For us, is very important the authenticity and stable quality of our products, so we want to share some tips to identify if the product is a real one or fake.
1. Inspect Box Details
Packaging details: check printing quality, die-cutting, spelling, grammar, and security labels. Manufacturers of goods often get the box printing wrong, so look for small but minor spelling mistakes or awkward wording; vendors use many different methods for packaging and sealing, including “safewrap,” hologram stickers, etc. Most genuine brands protect their products with QR coding, hologram stickers, or serial numbers to verify authenticity.
2. Confirm serial numbers and barcode numbers inside the box sheets.
* Check the official brand website for the code if possible. Some fake consumable devices will have valid codes too.
* Scan the barcode to see whether the product information coincides with your printer model.
* Examine the Physical Appearance
Even when the package appears sophisticated, the actual product might give it away.
Pay attention
* Go to their official brand website if possible and check the code
* Scan the barcode to see how the product information matches to that model
3. More than the Packaging
Even if the packaging looks spot on, you can still tell if the product is fake if you examine it more closely.
Note:
* Material quality of the plastic/ finishing etc.
* Coloring
* Engraving of logos
* Weight (fake cartridges often weigh less due to low volume of toner in them)
Low-grade toner powder will look dusty, uneven, finer than a higher quality original toner etc.
4. Perform a Print Test
Lastly, probably the only surefire way that you have to put things to the test is to simply put it to test.
Watch out for:
* Toner sinusoidal (uneven density)
* Shading in the background
* Leakage of toner
* Ghosting
* Any extreme sounds from the printer during printing (it should all be fairly silent, should it not).
High-quality consumables should keep noise to a minimum when printing, and should hold no risk to the machine itself, should everything go according to plan.
5. Compare Prices Easily
Are the prices too low for the developer? If so, exercise more than a healthy dose of caution. Naturally, some aspect of filling is used, and of course, the new exists as well! It is more common to find competitively priced consumables, among other things. But extremely low prices, almost too-good-to-be-true prices, could mean:
*The filling level of toner is lower
*Could also be recycled low-grade products passed along as new/not as new
*Could be refurbished/parts sold as new
*Counterfeits
Some popular models worth looking into are HP W9100MC HP W9101MC HP W9102MC HP W9103MC, HP 415A, HP CF325X, HP CF300A, HP CF301A, HP Q7516A/16A. HP toner, ink cartridges, HP22, HP22XL, HP339, HP920XL, HP10, HP901, HP933XL, HP56, HP27, HP78. These are among best sellers in the toner world, hugely loved by many customers, evidenced through high repeat purchase rates!
Essentially, knowing the difference between genuine and fake, it all can boil down to experience and the courtesy of chance. Particularly if you have found a reliable source.
Cheap knock-offs may help you save a dime in the short term, but may lead to printer damage, complaints from customers, bad reps, and reviews from others.
